Mehul was a full-term newborn, but something was wrong. He struggled to latch, seemed floppy, and had a weak cry. Everyone thought it was poor breastfeeding technique.

But I noticed hypotonia and poor reflexes. Genetic testing revealed spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). He was started on gene therapy early.

Today, he’s hitting milestones we once thought impossible.


The Lesson Learned

Poor feeding isn’t always feeding trouble—it might be neuromuscular. A flaccid infant demands immediate investigation and interventional hope.
