The Teen With “Back Pain” and a Sarcoma

Seema, 17, came in with back pain she attributed to exam stress and poor posture. Over weeks, the pain worsened, unresponsive to NSAIDs. When she developed numbness in her leg, we ordered an MRI. It revealed a spinal Ewing sarcoma compressing the cord.

Emergency decompression and radiation followed by multi-agent chemotherapy saved not only her mobility—but her life.
